Foyer Global Health is the fully owned subsidiary of Foyer that delivers international medical insurance to internationally mobile individuals and employees of multinational companies across the world.

The Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) is a strategic underwriting and product leader. The CUO is responsible for developing and maintaining underwriting standards, driving underwriting quality, deliver individual and group pricing and develop individual and group products and services. The CUO is uniquely positioned to drive innovation across markets and lines of business, positively impacting top and bottom lines.

The CUO is responsible for the leadership, vision, and resources and is accountable for the department performance, the achievement of objectives and targets, and the alignment of the business's strategy.

The CUO structure FGH underwriting and create a competence centre as USP of Foyer and for underwriting to reach its new human and technological potential.

The CUO reports on metrics, forecast into presentations, reports and recommendations to present to stakeholders.



Responsibilities


  • Partner with the CEO and the executive committee, to define underwriting strategy and recommend business plans that will generate continued profitable growth in current and new markets.
  • Be a cornerstone of the collaborative leadership culture
  • In conjunction with the CFO, forecast quarterly underwriting results and set year loss expectations for annual planning process.
  • Analyse, evaluate, and make underwriting decisions in line with underwriting guidelines and recommendations.
  • Own the setting of loss ratio targets, and leading negotiation of renewals.
  • Review and analyse new insurance applications for risk exposure and conformity with underwriting guidelines.
  • Managing people to drive company culture and client demands.
  • Drive new product development and pricing.
  • Drive overall pricing processes for the company’s insurance.
  • Support the sales team’s negotiations with clients and brokers to build relationships and to develop new and renewal business.
  • Review, evaluate and report on loss activity.
  • Build, manage, train, and appraise team member to enhance the underwriting skills within the Underwriting Team.
  • Be a leader training, coaching, supporting, and removing hurdles allowing his team to grow and take ownership of their own delivery.
  • Ensuring that departmental and individual objectives and priorities are set and understood by all employees and that performance is monitored against these set objectives.
  • Manage underwriting document filings, accuracy of data entry to systems and contract integrity for accounts underwritten.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and to overall management of the company.
  • Establish appropriate internal underwriting procedures and criteria to control risk.
  • Oversee the development of the company’s underwriting systems.

 

Experience


  • A minimum of 10+ years’ senior underwriting experience, with in-depth knowledge of the International and Expatriate Medical Insurance product lines, including Annually Renewable Individual and Annual Renewable Group product lines
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or other related field required, Masters degree preferred
  • Experience with the underwriting of insurance across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrable track record of profitable business and generating business growth.
  • Fluent in English, French and/or German is an asset.

 

Competences


  • Proven people management experience and skills, especially in building, leading and motivating large teams and of managing performance and conduct fairly and decisively.
  • Broad operational skills and experience in an underwriting environment, including budgetary management, financial management, claims, resource allocation.
  • A team player and able to structure and organise his team and interface with stakeholders.
  • Track record in writing and executing underwriting business plans.
  • Demonstrable ability developing and managing relationships with third party partnerships (TPA, MGUs)
  • Strong analytic skills and the ability to forecast appropriate product and rating adjustments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, together with the ability to work well in a small team environment.
